    Jr NBA and Jr. WNBA Regional Selection Camp at Ateneo de Cebu March 23 and 24


    Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines 2014 presented by Alaska returns to Cebu on Sunday for its Regional Selection Camp at the Sacred Heart School -Ateneo de Cebu in Mandaue.

    Boys and girls aged 10 to 14 will get the chance to participate in a learn-and-achieve camp that will test their physical and basketball smarts through NBA style skills tests and basketball drills. The two-day selection camp starts at 9 a.m. on March 23 and ends March 24.  This is the fourth time that the Jr. NBA has come to Cebu but the very first time that the Jr. WNBA has come to the Philippines.

    The first day of the Regional Selection Camp will subject participants to a whole day of vitals tests, skills tests and drills after which the top performers of the day will be chosen. The second day will consist of more drills and work at skills stations, along with scrimmages for the participants. At the end of the day, as much as eight boys and four girls will be chosen in the Iloilo camp to represent the region in the National Training Camp in April . Jr. NBA /Jr. WNBA coaches led by Coach Chris Sumner, Specialist of Basketball Operations, NBA Asia and local Jr. NBA coaches led by PBA Legends Jojo Lastimosa and Jerry CodiƱera and Perlas Pilipinas Coaches Ish Tiu and Melissa Jacob will run the camp with Alaska coaching staff and local volunteer coaches.

    Besides undergoing skills, aptitude and endurance challenges designed to hone their basketball fundamentals, Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA participants will also learn about the S.T.A.R. values of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, a positive Attitude and Respect.

    A total of 40 boys and 14 girls will be culled from the Regional Selection Camps held in Surigao, Iloilo, Puerto Princesa, Cebu, Dagupan, and Manila in March and April. Ten more boys and six more girls from the Alaska Power Camp will make up the final cast of 50 male and 24 female participants in the National Training Camp which will be held in Manila on April 25-27.

    The National Training Camp is the high point of Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines 2014 presented by Alaska and will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Tent on April 25 and 26 and at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on April 27. At that event ten Jr. NBA Philippines 2014 All Stars and four Jr. WNBA Philippines 2014 All Stars will be chosen and will be rewarded with an authentic NBA experience later in the year plus the chance to play against a counterpart Jr. NBA team abroad. The Coach of the Year 2014 will also be announced at the National Training Camp.

    Registration for the Iloilo Regional Selection Camp can be made online on the Jr. NBA website  at www.jr.nba.asia/philippines or on site at the Ateneo de Iloilo starting at 8 a.m., before the start of the clinics.

    The Jr. NBA program was first conducted in the Philippines in 2007 and has more than doubled in participation in the past six years. Each year a new city benefits from the grassroots basketball program that involves not just young players but also their parents and coaches. This year, more than 80,000 students, parents, and coaches will benefit through Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA activities including camps and clinics, NBA Cares outreach activities, television programs and digital initiatives.
